A Little About the Sweet Treat –

cup•cake (noun) – a small cake, the size of an individual portion, baked in a cup-shaped mold.

The term “cupcake” was first mentioned in 1828 in Eliza Leslie’s Receipts cookbook. The cakes were often baked in individual pottery cups, or molds, and took their name from the cups they were baked in.
